When children are rewarded with food, they associate \u201cjunk food\u201d with being good or feeling happy. Soon, they learn to eat every time they want to reward themselves or to cheer themselves up rather than eating to satisfy hunger. Eventually, they become adults who reward themselves with food.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fortunately, there are alternatives! We can reward children in more meaningful, lasting ways that will not cause any disordered behaviors in the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make a coupon book with a variety of rewards that your child can choose from. You could make it together, allowing your child to choose some of the rewards that he would prefer to receive. Set limits regarding cost and try to avoid rewarding with very expensive items such as tablets or video games.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Either you are a parent, a grandparent or a teacher, below we present you some non-food rewards alternatives to embrace and motivate your children:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Time: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The gift of your time can make a tremendous impact on the life of a child.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1.Take a bike ride\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2. Play your child\u2019s favorite game<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3. Call a grandparent or other loved one on the phone<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4. Take a trip to the park<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5. Have a friend over to play<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6. Go to the movies together<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Responsibility:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Children love to be put in charge or to be given extra responsibilities that indicate their maturity. Finding ways to help your child feel like a \u201cgrown-up\u201d will motivate even the most reluctant child.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7. Let them check the mailbox<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">8. Let them feed the pet<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">9. Let them supervise their younger sibling<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10. Let them sleep late for one night<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Service:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Young children love to help out at home or in a community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">11. Bake bread or another healthy treat to take to a neighbor or teacher<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12. Take vegetables or flowers from your garden to a neighbor or teacher<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">13. Make a greeting card to send to a grandparent or other loved one<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">14.
